Mike Ploog stands out for his macabre horror stories he did for such titles as Werewolf by Night, Frankenstein, Ghostrider, Conan, Planet of the Apes and Creepy during the 1970s In his graphic novel 'The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus', Ploog showed the lighter and more nostalgic side of his talent. THE JACK KIRBY MUSEUM Writer Russell Payne (BBC's Morris Telford, A Salopian Odyssey, American Spoon Indigo, Jelhead, John Watson’s “Cover’s That Never Were”) is exclusively promoting the JACK KIRBY MUSEUM at this year’s convention. You can find out more about the “King of Comics” and join or donate to the Kirby Museum who are raising funds to open a "Pop-Up" Museum on the Lower East Side, near where Kirby was born and raised. A Kirby panel on the Saturday will explore the impact Kirby has had on modern culture.
Jack Kirby (1917-1994) Jack Kirby was one of the most influential and prolific artists in the history of comics. He co-created such enduring characters as Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Hulk, New Gods and hundreds of others stretching back to the earliest days of the comics medium.
The Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center is organized exclusively for educational purposes; more specifically, to promote and encourage the study, understanding, preservation and appreciation of the work of Jack Kirby by: • illustrating the scope of Kirby's multi-faceted career, • communicating the stories, inspirations and influences of Jack Kirby, • celebrating the life of Jack Kirby and his creations, and • building understanding of comicbooks and comicbook creators.

Check out the stand in the lobby and their suite on the 2nd floor next to the Talks Room throughout the weekend for these events @ the library table in the lobby Come along to chat to your friendly neighbourhood librarians! You can join Cardiff Libraries, check out the comics, graphic novels, manga and anime books and DVDs we have for loan as well as finding out about all the events that go on in libraries across the city. Zombie make up demo ( 2nd floor ) Each session lasts 30mins; there will be a demonstration of zombie make-up technique and the chance to be styled as a zombie! The library table also makes a good zombie feeding ground; our borrowers have big, tasty braaaaaains. Living Comic ( 2nd floor ) Read, write and be part of a comic! The Bookworm is a villain with no imagination. Foil his plans to steal the plots of books, help him further his evil schemes, create a superhero to prevent his attempt at world domination or just have a look at what others have written and drawn already. Open to all ages! Cosplay We will put together a dedicated cosplay display section on the library table and we are looking into having elements of cosplay in the living comic.
